wee little lady...

yesterday found me in one of my fav fav thrifting spots, with little ones in tow, and as much as i thought that might be a tad bit crimping of my shopping style...it was delightful!

at first there did not seem to be too much to my liking, then around a corner, on a table scattered with various treasures...there she was standing proudly just a few inches high in all her wooden beauty, with her hair cropped blond & short (like moi), she had the most lovely dress, which surely was handpainted in her homeland of Finland...she has traveled long (and perhaps a bit hard, for there are a few scratches on her backside) to find me.

she cost so little and has already brought much happiness and inspiration such that i cannot explain...
this wee little lady now sits quite cheerfully on my desk where she recounts tales of adventure, friends, men folk in faraway lands and lessons learned....she is sure to meet some new friends around this country home not far from the sea in no time at all.

her name is yet to be determined, but if you know me, you know, she will be adorned with a rightful name before weeks end...

here is to little ladies who find their way into our homes, give us inspiration, mystery and insight from a lonely spot on a consignment table to the warm and fuzzy spot on my sunny desk

on days such as these...

sometimes when children are sick...doesn't happen a whole lot...but when it does..
you stay home and secretly enjoy the solitude of homelife (and constantly hope they get better soon), but embrace the fact that you all do not have to go anywhere..anytime soon...and so you:

build forts and pretend to live in 100 year old castles in faraway, exotic lands...like Scotland or Texas and places like that...

you draw toucans with oil pastels..because oil pastels..ROCK
you take countless water breaks on your unending worksite..also known as your backyard..which, no matter how much work you do...never seems to be close to finished...enjoy the process...that is my mantra.
and you plant..plant...plant and love what you do...always...how about you?

newfound love affair...

so when fz came home last week and announced that we must get ourselves a barn owl...i gave him that familiar look...the look that says, silently, kindly and quite honestly 'you may really have lost it this time'...but upon further research ( i am told by a expert and researcher himself, that this is just the beginning of my love affair) i am excited to announce and quite smitten to admit that a barn owl is just what this wee home in the country, not far from the sea has needed....and so begins an exciting and wonderful adventure, of which I hope to photograph and document, although i am not too versed with nighttime photography, so please do be patient.

tata for now all you nightowls...

i think it is here...

When I was a little girl, I remember how, in California, the transition from Spring to Summer was so clear...well, there was always a bit of 'June Gloom' but overall, the onset of Summer was quite evident..and the warmth of this time of year was undeniable...what has happened?...I am not too sure...Mother Nature is an odd gal of late, the one real definite sign that Summer is here, is that school is out in a few days.
I sometimes dream of living somewhere completely different, maybe colder (no snow please), maybe wetter (but not too much rain please), by the sea, in an old house, with a studio (already standing) out back...but then I look around where I live, these green hills, this old home, the warmth of the sun (when it does come out) , the ocean not far from here...and I realize this is truly home...for all the unpredictability and bi-polar ways of mother nature...this is home.

Here is to the start of summer...

I think.

strong like bull...

he is built of muscle, runs like the wind, chews and swallows any ball...golf, tennis, baseball, bouncy, you name it, in a matter of minutes, demolished, gone without a trace (until a day later in varying forms), often he bumps into walls with his head, he is afraid of brooms and silly household items, his favorite spot is laying in the sun under the dining table with children wrapped around him, he has a secret calming spot just under his neck that will stop him in his tracks....he is a lover of kisses and hugs, late at night he is like a cat curled up on your lap (a 100 lb cat), his presence does not go unnoticed wherever he goes, he is feared by those unknown, but so so loved by everyone else...

this is the one and only Luke

No plans, are the best plans...

Sometimes when there is no plan to do anything too special on a long holiday weekend...well, that can be the very best plan of all.

When friends call and have extra space to camp, you load up and go, with simply bathing suits, p.j.'s some snacks (and your camera bien sur)...there was much time spent with toes in the sand, collecting rocks, dragging seaweed, endless time dodging waves, some assessing of surf, then surfing, a bit of fishing, more sand in the toes, bocce ball tournaments, contemplating what to snack on next and overall just relaxing...for not one bit of planning involved...I would most certainly call that a good weekend...I sense Summer close around the corner, and I am ready.

Here is hoping yours found you relaxing and enjoying the weather, wherever you might be.
