on wings he soars...

on (sometimes) swift wings and the energy to launch a spaceship...he is pure amazement at every turn...the earth, at times, cannot keep him grounded... wakes with a smile and arms stretched for hugging...frequently proclaims his love...and then in minutes is charging at high speed for the great outdoors..curiosity has caused many an item to break or go lost into the great abiss...his skin is like nothing that words can describe...weekends are consumed with boyish ventures including bats, arrows, belt loops, potato guns (yes, you read that right, there is such a thing as a device that shoots potato pieces) and baseballs...
here is wishing you a sun drenched and love filled weekend you fine folks.

cobbler's wife...

so i do consider myself a bit of culinary gal, well, i used to be much more of a gal about the kitchen if you will, however, two young ones and some lack of creativity has of late caused me some 'stuckness' in la cuisine...however, once in a while i surprise the lovely beings in this wee home and as FZ says 'you are mustering something up'...he doesn't always like the idea of a 'mustered up meal' however, i will share this little delightful desert with you so that you may enjoy some of this bliss...i am not a big baker normally, but this my fine folks, was so easy that i could not resist and it had the added bonus of bringing back memories of cobblers i used to bake with my mum..so here you have it, do it and add a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream and you will be transported momentarily to heaven my friends....
here is all ya need:
2 pints fresh strawberries hulled and quartered
1 pint blueberries (i used fresh, recommend you do)
1 cup sugar (you shall be dividing)
1 tbsp. cornstarch
3/4 cup flour (i used organic whole wheat and it was lovely)
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
6 tbsp. butter, melted
1. preheat oven to 375. In a bowl comine all berries, 1/3 cup plus 2 tsp. sugar and cornstarch...let sit 10 min.
2. in another bowl, mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. In a third bowl, stir egg, milk, vanilla and butter. Add dry ingredients, stir well.
3. place in med. size (i used a ceramic oven safe oval dish measuring 10"x7")
divide fruit evenly and top with a spoonfuls evening out on top of fruit of flour mixture. Bake 25-35 minutes until top is golden brown, cool for 5 minutes and serve with vanilla bean ice cream or fresh whipped cream.
you are guaranteed to sport a grin and chuckle for a spell.
(recipe is compliments of this culinary queen)
enjoy!

colors divine...

i am a california girl, by that i simply mean that i am born, bred and have grown roots in southern california, however, along the way i have traveled and lived for a spell in various locations...always returning to sunny california, do i love it...of course, i do dare admit that at times i tire of the sun (i know i know you are sitting somewhere cold, rainy &/or snowy and thinking what an ungrateful gal) but at times the heat and the sun, as wonderful as they are...just make me want a change...
& i do so love the rain...
..so when i was at artfest a few weeks ago in port townsend, wa, where it rains, well as you can imagine, quite a lot, or most of the time, i was in a bit of a state of bliss, the skies were gray and the rain fell pretty constantly, the green, growth, blooming and overall feel was pretty wonderful...i walked on the beach most everyday and took in the change of environment around me with a welcomed heart...

the sand and ocean were rugged, clouds hung low covering everything in the most luxurious shades of gray...the pine trees stood tall right at the shore like large pillars of history holding their own against the rough weather and cold air....
on my first day of walking on the beach i thought to myself
'why how sad someone has littered here, or perhaps this trash has washed up on the sand'
for there scattered all over this stretch of beach were droppings of deep, colorful pink, coral colors, in the most beautiful shades, they stood out against the gray, grim coastline...as i approached one i realized, quite happily that this was not litter, not trash, nor a washed up remnant of some debris....what i came upon was something so divine and rendered me speechless...
from the sea, colors of such incredible depth and vibrancy...
drops of sunshine and warmth.
mother nature...you really do amaze me.

for those who dream of pirates...

we have all been there..no?
dwelling on a ship with pirates and those not fit for society...sailing away to unknown destinations where treasures and forbidden heirlooms await...
here is to wee pirates in bath tubs that are transformed into grand ships and vessels of shinanigans...ohhhh life is grand around these parts...how you doing where you are?

warmth, color....oh and hugging

few of my favorite things...
merino wool, felting needle, hot tea...
first day of artfest heading into Sunny Carvalho's class...

Just to pass on a little bit of important information...
did you know that there is a 6-second factor in regards to hugging?
My desk calendar says:
'If you want to give an especially powerful hug, hold on for at least six seconds. This is the minimum time necessary to promote the flow of oxytocin and serotonin, mood-boosting chemicals that encourage bonding.'
hmmm good to know as you go into this fine weekend...may you get and give many 6-second (or longer) hugs.

creative business...

because i am a dreamer and creative soul, but also stuck at times i am thinking this course offered by the delightful Jeanne Oliver might be just what this gal is needing about now...
because honestly, isn't it refreshing to have someone to share in the do's and don'ts, the lessons learned and be so kind to open up all this information...how lovely....is what i am thinking.
here is sending you warm, happy wishes for today.
